Clinical Properties of Rosehip Oil

Rosehip oil is a fatty acid extracted from seeds of the Rosa canina L , also known as rosehip. Linoleic acid is the most abundant fatty acid found in rose hip oil (35.9–54.8%), followed by α-linolenic acid (16.6–26.5%), and oleic acid (14.7–22.1%). Why are fatty acids so important in our skincare routines?

Rosehip oil also contains lipophilic antioxidants such as vitamin C and vitamin F. These are antioxidants that are "fat-loving" meaning that they can penetrate and enhance the skin barrier, lending protection while also rendering moisturizing benefits. Other antioxidants in rosehip oil include tocopherols and carotenoids. Rose hip oil also contains high level of phenolic acids.

And did you know that rosehip contains trans-retinoic acid? Retinoic acid is the active form of retinoids/retinols that delivers all of those skin benefits of unclogging pores, preventing blackheads, balancing oil production, and reducing inflammation. That's why rosehip is a fantastic ingredient for acne-prone teen skin!
